The 2024 IIHF World Juniors Championship in Gothenburg is quickly approaching! The participating nations are attending pre-camps and exhibition matches prior to the tournament’s start on December 26.
Thirty players will be for spots on the final roster and as usual, Canada will enter the tournament with a great chance at being champion. Although the team Canada gold medals is bringing to Sweden is full of talented players, they lack World Junior experience.
But Team Canada has received a loan from Tristan Luneau, who has spent the entire season with the Anaheim Ducks. Even if adding such players would have significantly improved Canada’s squad, the team still appears strong and has high expectations going into the competition.
IIHF World Juniors U20 Championship
The International Ice Hockey Federation hosts the IIHF World Junior Ice Hockey Championships (WJC), also referred to as the World Juniors. Among the campers is Matt Savoie, who made an appearance with the Buffalo Sabres during the current season.
Head coach Alan Letang, who presently serves as the head coach of the OHL’s Sarnia Sting, will oversee the club. Prior to cutdowns, the potential members of Team Canada will participate in exhibition matches against USports opponents following practises.
Team Canada will have a near-complete turnover from last year’s gold medal-winning lineup for the 2024 World Junior Hockey Championship, as Hockey Canada released its 30-player selection camp roster for the tournament on Tuesday.

Hockey Canada and USA Hockey forthcoming selection camps for the 2024 World Juniors
Owen Pickering was the only name on Hockey Canada’s selection camp roster that I had anticipated seeing. Moving forward The only member of the 2023 squad who is returning is Owen Beck. The prospect for the Montreal Canadiens was left off the roster prior to the competition.
In three games, he recorded one assist. He has 15 goals and 25 points in 23 games this season with the Peterborough Petes of the OHL.
Among the five players invited to camp who are eligible for the draught is forward Macklin Celebrini. In 15 games with Boston University this season, the Vancouver native has 10 goals and 25 points, ranking first in TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button’s most recent prospect ranking.
Practises and two games against a squad of U SPORTS all-stars are scheduled for December 12 at 3 p.m. ET/noon PT and December 13 at noon ET/9 a.m. PT at the Sixteen Mile Sports Complex.
There will also be some exhibition games played in relation to the pre-camps. You should definitely play some of these games because they are some of the best.
In preparation for the 2024 IIHF World Junior Championship, the Canadian National Junior Team will embark on a pre-tournament camp trip to Malmo, Sweden on December 14.
Owen Pickering, a defenseman selected in the first round by the Pittsburgh Penguins, was one of the notable omissions from Team Canada.
It’s interesting to note that four players were chosen for inclusion who were not selected in the previous two draughts. Forwards invited to the camp included Markus Vidicek of the Halifax Mooseheads and Owen Allard of the Soo Greyhounds.
